Gliz's Weekly NBA Rant! NBA Week 3 - SirmacTV.com

Word!

So it’s only right that we start this week off by giving daps to Shaq, A.I and Kobe who all moved up the NBA all-time scoring list this past week. Shaq climbed over John Havlichek into 10th, A.I passed Elgin Baylor for 19th and Kobe claimed the 22nd spot after passing Gary Payton and Larry Bird. That’s not bad company right there.

So last week I was going on about how ATL was still unbeaten and how Boston was gonna be their truest test so far. The Hawks took Boston into OT but Paul Pierce was clutch down the stretch, as he always is, and the C’s pulled it out. Since then, the Hawks have lost their last 2 and have returned from the stratosphere.

Last week there was also talk about a couple trades involving the Raps and Jason Kapono. One deal had him going to Golden State along with Kris Humphries in exchange for Al Harrington, while the other had him possibly involved in a 3-way deal where the Raps would end up with Gerald Wallace of the Bobcats. A lot of people that I talked to cited Kapono as “too good a shooter” to be let go, and I agree that the dude can shoot the lights out…but what good is that if he’s not gunning??? When I checked the stats, Kapono is 14th in the L in 3-point %, however, he’s sitting at 130th when it comes to treys-attempted (only 14! I thought it was a typo…). Just to put that in perspective, S-Jack is leading the way with 68 attempts, which brings me back to my initial point: Kapono can shoot, but why keep him if he’s not shooting? Realistically, with Bosh and O’Neal attracting double-teams down low, shouldn’t Kapono be getting a tonne of open looks? Guys like Ray Allen, Peja, Bibby all have 45+ attempts, fuck, even Daquan Cook has 55 attempts! In order to justify keeping Kapono while also getting the true value out of him, Sam needs to tweak the offence…otherwise I’d just consider Kapono a decent trading chip.

So far this season I think the East is looking better than the West. So far. The Spurs are injury-ridden and should eventually bounce back, but the Mavs ship just keeps sinking, and even though Phoenix sits at 7-3, they’ve looked vulnerable and barely pulled out W’s against Memphis and Sacramento. They’re always gonna be a tough team to match-up against but I think the window for a ‘Chip will be nearly closed after this year. In regards to the Mavs, the Kidd/Harris trade isn’t looking so hot these days…the aging Kidd is still pushing along but Harris has been unstoppable for the Nets. In the last 3 games (all Nets wins) Harris has went for 33, 30 and 38. Now it’s just a matter of whether or not he can stay healthy.

By now I’m guessing some of you guys have caught the new Converse spot for the Wade 4’s that says “Dwayne Wade’s belief is stronger than your doubt”. Well, the dude was a monster for the last week averaging 31 points a contest and looking as healthy as ever. After coming off a strong Olympic run (where I personally thought he was the Redeem Teams best player) the doubters kept surfacing and people questioned if he was the same star he once was. Lamarcus Aldredge, Travis Outlaw and Steve Blake all learned the
that he still is.

In the same game, my boy Rudy Fernandez came off the bench for Portland and hung 25 on the Heat.

Utah fans rejoiced for a couple days after getting Deron Williams back, but his return was short-lived. In the 2 games back, Williams only scored 7 and 8 pts. respectively and seemed to be tentative to play his slashing style of game. He ended up sitting out Friday’s game against Charlotte and Saturday’s game against the Cavs.

So ummmmm, how about Dwight Howard’s first triple-double of his career? Superman dropped 30 to go along with 19 boards and 10 BLOCKS in a 16-point piecing of Oklahoma City. This came after he went for 29 and 19 the previous game. That’s just abuse.

I know this isn’t NBA-related, but if you haven’t checked out Team Flight Brothers, peep the clip
Naaaasty.

If you were Rip Hamilton, would you be pissed at the Pistons front office? Rip signed a 3-year contract extension only 3 days before his bestfriend Chauncey Billups got dealt to Denver and was allegedly kept in the dark about the deal. Rip obviously loves Detroit but would he have signed his deal if he knew Chauncey was on his way out of town? Have you guys checked out the

vs.

Ibeatyou.com challenge? Both dudes made funny-ass clips but I’m giving the edge to B-Diddy by a slight margin…

Speaking of Baron, did anyone see him and the Clips get torched by…Chris Tucker? No wait, it was actually Anthony Morrow (Who the hell is Anthony Morrow?). Aside from looking like Chris Tucker, the undrafted rookie dropped 37 and added in 11 boards in Golden State’s win against the Clips on Saturday. He was giving buckets to Cat Mobley and Ricky Davis all night long and even the announcers said “nobody in the building even knows who this guy is”. We’ll see what the rest of the season holds…

Well that’s it for this week, but as mentioned before, make sure to check out SirmacTV.com and I’ll see you cats next week…

I’m out like Chauncey.

Welcome To The Team Todd
