Moses Malone Presents: --OMERTA--
To Place an Order contact Moses @
omertabrand@live.com
Omertà is a popular attitude, common in areas of southern Italy, such as Sicily, Calabria, and Campania. A common definition is the "code of silence".
In this day and age everyone has had an altercation with authority may it be small or large scale. When faced with a life altering issue individuals must grasp reality and evolve from it to achieve true greatness. Omertà is that evolution into greatness, which distinguishes it from many of the designer brands you may have seen in the past. It stands alone with a unique style and a bold yet sharp presence. Each hat produced is made with genuine blood, sweat and tears which unifies the movement into one.

JD Era jumps into full-time
'Now or never,' hip-hop artist says
By NICHOLAS DAVIS, TORONTO SUN
Tomorrow marks the beginning of the school year for thousands of students across the Greater Toronto Area. Mississauga's Joseph Dako is one of those students. He needs one year to complete his communications degree at Wilfrid Laurier University, but Dako plans to take this year off school so he can do a different kind of learning.
Dako is considered one of the premier young music artists in Canada. He goes by the stage name JD Era. For the past three years, he has been juggling his academics with his burgeoning music career, and he's found success in both. But this year, he's going to focus solely on his music career so he can learn all he needs to learn to become a successful recording artist.
"I want to be able to make music my career," says Dako, who also took business courses when he was at university. "I know if things don't work out I can always go back to university and finish off my degree, but I really feel now is the time to try to establish myself beyond Canada's hip hop community."
Dako has a massive following in Canada's hip hop community. His nickname is the Prince of the North. If you visit Dako's MySpace page, he has a couple of songs with more than 33,000 hits, he has more than 7,000 friends and has almost 2,000 comments from fans right across the country.
"I know I have a solid fan base here in Canada, especially in Toronto," says Dako, who burst on to Toronto's hip hop scene in 2005. "And it was important for me to have that before I tried to establish myself outside of this country. It's the support of my local fans that has helped spread my name beyond Canada's borders and given me the strength to pursue music as a full-time vocation."
There have been other hints that have made Dako feel his time is now. He says he Googled his name the other day and saw one of his mixed tapes on a Japanese site and a Russian site.
GETTING SOME LOVE
"It was kind of crazy since I couldn't read what they were saying," says Dako, "but I have already been to England and was well-received over there and I'm also getting some love from south of the border."
Dako has built his name and reputation on the strength of the six mixed tapes on his discography. A few singles from those tapes have found their way to mainstream radio. Take Me Home and Ride Clean, both charted on Toronto's urban music station FLOW 93.5. And Good Morning Toronto became a smash hit on Toronto's underground hip hop scene.
"I think those records showed people how good a songwriter I am," says the 23-year-old Dako. "I'm lyrical enough to be respected by underground heads and versatile enough to be accepted by mainstream fans."
Dako was supposed to have released his first commercial CD earlier this year. The much-anticipated album was in the works for the past two years; it even had a title -- Coming To America. But instead, he released it as an underground mixed tape.
"I never felt the buzz was big enough to drop an album," says Dako. "I want to make sure when I drop my album that it really is the right time. I look at how well Kardinal Offishall (local Toronto rapper) is doing right now in the States and I realize the importance of timing."
By the end of this year, Dako says he will release an EP, and he will follow that up in 2009 with his first album. He feels taking the year off school will help him reach his goals sooner.
"Right now I'm hungry," says Dako. "I wake up everyday and I consume hip hop. I read about, I watch it, I practice ... I love this business. School held me back a bit, but this year I'm going for it. It's now or never."
